How to avoid mistakes while writing an essay?
In schools, pupils and students are required to write an essay – this can be part of the curriculum or a separate test, a test of knowledge. As well as drawing up essays, term papers and reports, writing an essay requires a certain amount of effort, without which it is impossible to get high-quality material at the end. But unlike most types of projects, it’s impossible to write your own essay in a general pattern, it must be carefully thought out and corrected inaccuracies in the text after each check.
Usually, it’s enough time to write out a cover page (sample prepared in advance) with data and write the finished work, so you always have time to re-read your text, make corrections and add the missing details. But, despite the available opportunities, many make mistakes – either through inexperience or because of the degree of literacy.
In any case, whatever your level of grammar and vocabulary, you can avoid appearing in the text unacceptable errors for the genre by reading the following recommendations:
- Carefully check the composition not only for spelling, but also for syntax, lexical correspondence. If you are not sure of your competence, read the text to a familiar person – perhaps he will catch the discrepancies by ear. Punctuation (punctuation) can be checked through Word, but it will be only a superficial assessment. Difficult turns and phrases should be changed in such a way that there are no questions about their writing.
- Do not stint with the argument, every statement on paper must be supported by arguments. If your text contains only a set of opinions, without trying to convince the reader that he is right, then the work is unlikely to be valuable.
- Avoid inappropriate chatter. This does not mean that it is impossible to insert a word in certain places, however, at the same time, a lot of water in the text makes it too boring and tedious. Try to fully invest in the main topic.
- Do not abuse long sentences. Many of us want to be known as smart, but this is best achieved not through the length of the text, but with the help of its capacity and juiciness. In one paragraph it suffices to use one or two complex sentences and about two or three simple ones.
Having familiarized with common mistakes, you will increase your chances of writing a quality text, which will give you an additional advantage over a teacher or an expert commission.
